A guide to jewellery glue
Glue is an essential tool in creating fabulous pieces of jewellery. It can be used to attach cord ends, bead caps, cabochon’s and even customise beads. It can be tricky finding the right glue for your project and it is important to use the correct one for your task. They come in different strengths, have a variety of applicators including precision tips and each are compatible with a range of materials.

Before you choose your glue you need to check which materials you are planning to use it with and if it has the correct strength for what you require. It can be pricey and dries up quite quickly if not stored properly. Have a read of some of the different types of glue below with some top tips on how to use it.

Cement Glue

Cement Glue This is a medium strength glue which sets in approximately 10-15 minutes and dries to a Clear finish in about an hour. It doesn’t damage surfaces or bond your fingers together and it enables you to position your components before they set. It has a waterproof finish and any excess can be removed with alcohol. GS Hypo Clear Cement Glue features a precision tip which is great for applying to delicate pieces of jewellery.

Bead Enhance Glue

Create customised beads with this glue and add on gems, glitter, small charms and crystals! It’s a non toxic glue that sets in approximately 30 minutes and fully dries in around 24 hours. Ensure your beads surface is completely clean before using this and do not use it on a varnish finish as this can damage your bead. Any excess can be removed with acetone.

Super Glue

Super glue comes in a variety of applications including a fine nozzle for precision work or a brush applicator for an even coverage.

Fevi Kwik

You only need a small amount of this glue for your jewellery making projects as it is very strong, similar to super glue. It dries almost instantly so take extra care! It can be removed with nail polish remover if required. It can be used for a variety of beading and craft projects as it works well with most materials.

Top tips when using glue

  • Remember to always be careful when using any kind of Adhesive and avoid contact with skin and eyes as they can cause irritation
  • Cover your work surfaces to protect them.
  • Flatten the tube rather than roll it up Clean the needlepoint with alcohol/acetone after use
  • Store it at room temperature
  • Use tweezers when adding small embellishments
  • Always follow the instructions on the package
