This week I took my Mum, niece and nephew to Seaham for a few days. It was our first official adventure after lockdown and to say that we were ready for it would be an understatement.
For those of you who follow us on social media you’ll know that I make a fair few of these trips in order to stock up on the sea glass that you can purchase here from Beads Jar. (green mix and multicolour mix)
I’ve been beach combing around the East coast for about 6 years; since I discovered that not only is this area very beautiful, it also provides the perfect location for special sea glass pieces, like these multicoloured beauties.

This is because there used to be a bottle factory in the area years ago, and all the discarded glass was dumped in the sea. We call these special pieces ‘multi’s’. Finding them is increasingly difficult as more and more people seem to be heading to Seaham to find their own little treasures.
To find Sea glass, you can either just walk along the beach looking around until you find pieces or (and this is my preferred method), sit down and dig through the sand and stones, i’ve found plenty of amazing pieces this way. It does take time, i could literally spend the entire day on the beach.

I like to go out at sunrise as the tide is going out, to see what fresh pieces the sea has brought in. And then follow the tide out.
Occasionally we find amazing pieces, the ones that make you smile for the rest of the week :) but usually it tends to be browns, greens, aqua and whites.
These still make amazing jewellery. Pair smaller pieces to create earrings by drilling them (i use a Dremel drill), it does take quite a while to drill but the end results are beautiful. You could also wire wrap your sea glass to create unique pieces or place them in simple a cage pendant or place smaller pieces in a floating locket. They make beautiful unusual gifts.

Until next time, Happy Beading! - Love Claire xXx
